Both really highlight the issues surrounding hair, which is a prime example of how society racializes certain physical characteristics and then assigns them value. I love India.Arie and had forgotten how applicable this song is to one of the discussions we had this week. Arie is basically challenging the idea that we can make assumptions about someone's worth based on their hair style/type. If only we had more time in class to discuss these, but that is why we have the blog! Also, the presentations will allow everyone to bring outside examples such as these into class discussion.
